In Bali, the suicide cases have risen since year 2000 and the main cause is chronic mental illness, followed by interpersonal problems, and chronic physical illness. In addition, poor economic conditions have significantly contributed to this rise. Inadequate mental health system support and insufficient hospital-based interventions leave many patients in restrain or untreated. Outreach services have not been nationally promoted as a means of improving access and mental health outcomes. There are only limited number of psychiatrists for 4 million populations.
In order to reduce number of people committing suicide and prevent cases of suicide in Bali, SIMH has created two crisis centers called Layanan Hidup Bahagia (Hapiness Life Services) in two regencies Karangasem and Buleleng with the motto Fight Against the Darkness.
